This site is meant to serve two primary purposes. The first is as a place of self-reflection and personal thoughts about the process of getting a PhD, and the second is to share information, strategies, workflows, tips & tricks, and the occasional rant with those who might be going through (or thinking about going through) a similar process. This site has no affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh or the Department of Theatre Arts and all opinions should be considered those of the author.
I chose to call the site “This Thus” because of the Artemus Ward quotation that is in the footer: “Why is this thus? What is the reason of this thusness?” Questioning the “thusness” of theatre, performance, and pedagogy forms the roots of my desire to return to academia and dedicate myself to the research, teaching, writing, and practice of theatre and performance.
